ZeNIA: Imaginative Art

Discover New Connections and Celebrate the Creativity Within You.

No drawing experience needed.

ZeNIA borrows from the accessible art form Zentangle and combines its simplicity with the beauty and repeating patterns in nature.  The "I" in ZeNIA is for imagination!  While we are inspired by nature and Zentangle, we can play with color and add elements of whimsy to our creations.

  • What is Zentangle? Zentangle is a meditative way of drawing structured patterns that create beautiful images.  If you are thinking, “I can’t draw!”, that is wonderful!  Zentangle is about what we can create one pen stroke at a time.  No experience in Zentangle is necessary. Elizabeth will teach us.

Elizabeth Vander kamp, Facilitator

Elizabeth is a visual and performing artist and her work as a facilitator has resonated with participants of the Threshold Center (which she finds thrilling!).  She has decades of experience in health and healing, writing, performing, Zentangle, calligraphy, storytelling and story-listening.

Most recently, Elizabeth served as Assistant Director for the world premiere of From Where I Sit, a theatre piece created from the writing of people with spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder. This project grew out of her work as one of the founding artists of UAB's Arts in Medicine (AIM) program.  Elizabeth facilitates Expressive Writing classes for individuals and groups through AIM and in community.  She created TRUE listening and facilitates listening classes with a vision of humans learning to listen better together.

Elizabeth's passion for listening underpins all her work; she believes it is the foundation of love.
