Learn more about the fund and about Billie James.
The Billie James Fund for the Arts is dedicated to fostering artistic exploration and creation through diverse programs at the Threshold Center. We broadly define "the arts" to encompass a wide spectrum of human creative expression, imagination, and interpretation, including but not limited to Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, and Applied Arts.
This fund honors the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Billie James, an esteemed English and creative writing teacher. Billie's passion for language and the arts profoundly impacted her students. Celebrated for her talents in painting, calligraphy, sewing, culinary arts, and various crafts, she inspired countless individuals to embrace their own artistic journeys, always encouraging them to speak their truth and live authentically.
Billie, who previously served in a creative capacity on staff at Saint Luke’s and on the diocesan Commission on Spirituality, deeply resonated with the mission of the Threshold Center. She saw it as a welcoming space that nurtures well-being through engaging the heart, body, and imagination, and she believed in our commitment to embracing diverse perspectives and fostering genuine connection.
The Billie James Fund for the Arts continues Billie’s legacy by supporting programs at the Threshold Center that encourage exploration and expression across diverse artistic disciplines. Here, her passion for creative expression through art, writing, storytelling, and spiritual connection will be honored and carried forward.
