This 10 week, no cost, support group for those grieving the loss of a parent or sibling is based on Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt’s book Understanding Your Grief: Ten Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart,
Are you experiencing the wilderness of grief from the loss of a parent or sibling?
"Understanding Your Grief" is a 10-week support series where participants can expect compassionate guidance to help you navigate the journey.
Based on the work of Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, and facilitated by Community Grief Support Counselor Kerry Wingo, this group will focus on ten "touchstones" that serve as trail markers toward healing and hope.
There is no cost to attend and participants are welcome to join any time before Oct 3.
Attendance to all sessions is recommended. Registration is through Community Grief Support.

What to expect:
During the 10 weekly gatherings, participants will move through a guided program focussing on these 10 touchstones:
Open to the presence of your loss
Dispel misconceptions about grief
Embrace the uniqueness of your grief
Explore your feelings of loss
Understand the six needs of mourning
Recognize you are not crazy
Nurture yourself
Reach out for help
Seek reconciliation, not resolution
Appreciate your transformation

Meet Kerry:
Kerry Wingo resides in Homewood, Alabama. After teaching mindfulness and meditation for fifteen years, and serving as a rape response advocate for the Birmingham Crisis Center, she earned her M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Montevallo in 2023. Kerry provides holistic therapy for clients at her private practice, Kerry Wingo Counseling, and has been facilitating grief support groups for Community Grief Support since 2023. She is passionate about helping loss survivors find a spark of light and a place of respite as they navigate the pain of their grief.
