Book Launch & Conversation

What does love require of us? How can we embody love in the midst of discord and division?

How can we reconsider our relationship with people we’ve been taught to hate and fear?

Join The Rev. Angie Wright for a powerful evening of storytelling and reflection as she shares excerpts from Loving My Enemies & Other Outlandish Pursuits, a memoir of family, faith and power. This memoir follows Rev. Angie Wright’s commitment as an activist and pastor to stand against hate without indulging the temptation of hating the haters.

In conversation with Artist in Residence Salaam Green, Angie will explore the challenges—and possibilities—of practicing love toward our families, neighbors, and even our adversaries in turbulent times.

Come for an honest dialogue about faith, courage, and what it means to choose love when it feels most difficult.

Book signing to follow.

The evening is sponsored by The Threshold Center in collaboration with Thank You Books.

Rev. Angie Wright, author

Meet AngiE

Rev. Angie Wright always liked starting trouble - good trouble, as John Lewis called it.  She has dedicated her life to the passionate pursuit of justice and mercy throughout Alabama and the South. Over her sixteen years of service, she founded and pastored Beloved Community United Church of Christ in downtown Birmingham.

Her commitment to advocacy is evident in her role as a founder of Alabama Arise, a statewide coalition focused on poverty issues. Rev. Wright was a leader in the statewide effort to overturn Alabama’s anti-immigrant laws. Furthermore, she led Alabama's Hurricane Katrina Resettlement Program and held various positions, including staff and board roles, with Greater Birmingham Ministries and served  on the staff and boards of numerous local, regional, and national justice organizations.

Rev. Wright has an identical twin, Bonnie, and two splendid sons: Luke, a North Carolina musician, and Frank, who lives with his precocious 8-year-old son, Kai, on their farm in Costa Rica. Angie lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina with her red dog, Rio.
