Gathering Threads, Weaving Stories
Enhance your journaling practice or start fresh by crafting a personalized, handmade journal for creative writing, mindful reflection, or a meaningful gift.
Gathering Threads, Weaving Stories is a three-class series that combines the art of handcrafting journals with the practice of expressive writing. During the first two sessions participants will create unique, softbound journals with guidance by Betty Shivers.
In the first session, participants will use a pattern to make the cover for the journals.
In the second session participants will choose an inspirational quote for their journal. Quotes will be provided or you can bring your own. You can write the quote on your journal or have Betty write it for you in her own creative style. Examples will be provided. The participants will be able to make two journals, one to keep for themselves and one to give away as a gift.
In session three, author and spiritual director Charlotte Donlon will facilitate a discussion and workshop on the art of reflective journaling. This session will conclude with take-home journaling prompts to support a personal practice of capturing one's voice, memories and creativity.
What to Bring:
Participants should bring their own scissors, a ruler, and a sharpened pencil with a clean eraser.
All other supplies, including the journals, are provided by the Billie James Fund for the Arts.

Meet Betty
Betty loves to teach, no longer high school math, but as a facilitator in sharing her spirituality in women's book study groups and in sharing her creativity in making handcrafted journals and Swedish weaving.
Coming together to create, to share, to connect with one another is one of her most favorite things to do.
One of Bertty’s favorite quotes is from Maya Angelou, "You can't use up creativity. The more you use it, the more you have."
