Susanna Whitsett
For the last seven years, Susanna has served as the founding Executive Director of Founders Place at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church. Prior to Founders Place, Susanna worked at Camp McDowell, the camp and conference center for the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. It was here, growing up, that Susanna was “formed and transformed” by the experience of Christian camp community. These experiences inspired her to return to McDowell. Through the years, Susanna directed over 100 camps and retreats, all of which were primarily in service of one goal: creating community. She and her family have spent significant amounts of time at Camp McDowell where being closer to nature and immersed in eco-friendly living have informed how she views and moves in the natural world. Susanna continues to stay involved with Camp McDowell, seeing it as a “thin space” and, as stated in McDowell’s mission, “...the way the world could be”.
As the new Executive Director, I am honored to steward the mission of The Threshold Center and to support it continuing as a place of welcome, connection and healing. I am committed to expanding the Center’s reach while remaining faithful to its soul. With deep gratitude and humility, I look forward to journeying with the community—listening, learning and leaning into existing and new programs where transformation can gently unfold. I recognize and appreciate the trust of Saint Stephen’s and Threshold Center communities in me to step into this important role. Susanna
